Central Portugal

The central region of Portugal offers a wide range of tourist experiences.

The unique university city of Coimbra, the sanctuary of Fátima, the imposing monasteries of Alcobaça and Batalha, the mythical medieval town of Óbidos and the coastline marked by the world-famous Nazaré waves, are just a few examples of what this region has to offer its visitors.

Coimbra

Coimbra is one of the most historical places in the country, with a rich heritage. It is bordered by the Mondego river, and is a landmark of the Portuguese university tradition. The prestigious University of Coimbra and its majestic 18th century library mark this city, not forgetting its important 18th-century Catedral Românica (Romanesque Cathedral) in the oldest quarter of the city, as well as the famous Machado de Castro museum.
